Our Wedding

In February of 2024, Charley and Roxanne flew down to Uruguay to enjoy the last bit of summer in the southern hemisphere. Roxanne was very excited to see the place Charley called home for two years and meet all his previous Trafi coworkers turned best friends. Charley booked flights on Valentine's Day which he still claims had nothing to do with the timing of the proposal.. Nevertheless, Roxanne wasn't too suspicious because Charley is a bougie bitch and had often talked about going back to Uruguay before a few of his friends potentially moved. The trip was amazing! Each day was filled with beach adventures, fun friends, and an obscene amount of asado paired with rosé. On the second to last day of their trip the two went out to brunch with tons of friends and sat and giggled for hours. As time went on friends started going home for the day and Roxanne and Charley (and friend/photographer extraordinaire Yve) took a walk down the beach to check out a lighthouse nearby. Charley asked Yve to take a picture of the two in front of the lighthouse. Roxanne was still oblivious but happy as a clam. In a sudden swoop, Charley dropped down, being sure to keep a 90 degree bend in both knees, and asked Roxanne a very important question. Roxanne's smile pushed her cheeks so far up her face, she nearly lost eyesight. She was so excited she almost forgot to answer. Perfectly whelmed and giddy from head-to-toe Roxanne gave a hearty yes to marrying the man of her dreams!

The Proposal

The day before they left for Uruguay, Roxanne had two things left on her pre-travel to-do list: get a new phone and get her nails done. Sadly, she didn't have time for both, so she asked Charley for his opinion. He said a new phone was way more important for vacation (her storage was beyond full, and she couldn't take any pictures). A new phone was secured in the nick of time which was definitely the right decision but Roxanne's first photos with her new bling also highlight her special Valentine's nails. At least they look nice with this Faro de José Ignacio sunset!

Dress Code

In true society fashion, the attire shall be nothing short of Magnificent. The dress code is black tie with a garden party flare. (That means tuxedos and dresses that cover your feet.) Gentlemen: We invite you to don your finest tuxedo—or, if you prefer/don’t own a tuxedo, a dashing black suit will do quite nicely. And for those with a flair for the extraordinary, patterned or colorful tuxes are most welcome! The more unique, the better—we encourage you to embrace the spirit of the celebration with bold style. Ladies: Feel free to embrace the occasion with grand, colorful gowns fit for royalty! The bolder and more whimsical, the better. The bride insists you are most welcome to outshine her—she promises you won’t! A few friendly guidelines on color: No, you may not wear white (because traditions do persist). But yes, you may absolutely wear red, black, or any hue that suits your fancy. We encourage playful, dazzling attire—sparkles, feathers, bright colors, and unique details are most welcome! Do be mindful, our ceremony shall commence upon the verdant grass, so one’s choice of footwear may require a bit of...practical consideration. One cannot, after all, be expected to glide gracefully if sinking into the lawn! Fear not, however, for the cocktail hour shall take place on the grand patio, and the reception on solid ground—ideal for dancing the night away without worry! Our Journey Together Dearest readers, it is not often that one witnesses such an extraordinary union of adventurous spirits. In the brief span of their courtship, this intrepid pair has graced ten countries with their presence—how splendidly cosmopolitan! Iceland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain, Canada, Uruguay, Mexico, Portugal, and France have each been privileged to host Roxanne and Charley’s splendid escapades. Yet, dear Roxanne, never one to resist the allure of the unknown, embarked on solo voyages to Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary, while Charley, with his own thirst for discovery, ventured to South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. With such a dazzling array of adventures, one could hardly be surprised that this couple, so deeply intertwined with the world's wonders, chose to share their next grand voyage—marriage—abroad, accompanied by their dearest companions. Travel Details Ah, the journey to a grand celebration is almost as important as the event itself! For those fortunate enough to join us, your travels shall begin in the charming city of Lisbon, a mere 45-minute carriage ride (or rather, car ride) from the enchanting locale of Sintra, where the festivities await. To ensure one’s utmost convenience, we suggest renting a vehicle. Fret not, dear guests, for the roads of Portugal follow the same rules as those in the United States. However, a word to the wise—most rental chariots come equipped with manual transmission, so if your heart yearns for ease, do request an automatic carriage at once! While rental fees are quite agreeable, do beware of squeezing two adults and their equally grand wardrobes into a diminutive Fiat—it may require some creative packing, indeed. For those arriving well in advance of the celebration, Lisbon beckons as the perfect place to linger. Sintra, while breathtaking, is a gem best admired over the course of just a few days. And though Portugal may be modest in size (akin to the state of Maine, for our American readers), it boasts treasures aplenty, should one wish to explore further afield. We await the honor of your presence with eager anticipation, for this most joyous day will be made all the more splendid by your company!

The couple has reserved the whole wedding venue Friday-Sunday; rooms at the venue are currently being held for family and the wedding party. However, there are many other accommodations within walking distance, less than half a mile from one another. There are also peddle bikes that can take you up the hill for a few dollars. By Invitation but for most guests: Valverde Palacio de SeteaisRooms at the wedding venue, Palacio de Seteais, are reserved for the wedding party, family, and probably you. Complimentary breakfast will be offered to all guest each morning. If additional rooms are available, we will be able to extend offers to the rest of our guests. Trust us. Friday Morning: A Prelude to FestivitiesBefore donning your finest white attire for the 2 PM poolside revelry, might I suggest an excursion to the illustrious National Palace of Pena? Perched majestically amidst the Sintra Mountains, this 19th-century Romanticist castle is a veritable feast for the eyes. However, be forewarned: its resplendent beauty attracts numerous admirers, rendering the experience akin to a promenade through a perpetual queue. Prudence dictates securing tickets in advance to ensure a seamless visit.

Alternatively, the sun-kissed shores beckon; a mere twenty-minute carriage ride transports you to pristine beaches where the Atlantic's embrace awaits. A word to the wise: whilst the sun's ardor is invigorating, do take care to shield oneself from overexposure, lest you appear more lobster than lord or lady at the evening's festivities. However, terrible handstands are wildly encourage as they are good for the soul.

More delightful details shall be revealed in due course!   Friday - (4pm) Hotel checkin for the Palacio is at 3pm. The festivities shall commence with a most splendid all white welcome party by the pool of the grand wedding venue at 4pm - don't forget your white swimmy! Beiges and creams are acceptable. Please stop texting the bride asking if other colors are ok - they are not :)   As the evening unfolds, the couple shall dine with their family, after which they intend to venture into town for a nightcap. Guests are cordially invited to join the couple for a leisurely exploration of Sintra’s charms. This outing, of course, is to be informal, so worry not about appearances. Do note, however, that food and drink will not be provided, so one should be prepared to indulge at their own discretion.

Saturday (5pm-2am tentatively) The grand day of celebration! Please arrive at approximately 5pm as the ceremony will commence at 5:30pm. The wedding shall feature a ceremony of great elegance, followed by a delightful cocktail hour, where drinks and light bites shall be served to whet the appetite. Cocktail location featured below.

As the evening unfolds, a sumptuous multi-course dinner awaits, and we assure you, dear guests, that no one shall leave wanting for more. The drinks will flow—both spirited and sober—until the night concludes in a grand finale of dancing, with festivities carrying on until 2:00 a.m.

Timeline

Everything you need to know, short n' sweet. Fly into Lisbon, Portugal (airport code LIS). You pick your flight! Rent a car or take public transport to the city of Sintra where all the wedding events will take place by Friday afternoon, June 13th. The All White Welcome Pool Party is Friday afternoon starting at 2pm. Yes, you have to wear white. Yes, we will be in the pool. Drinks and light bites will be provided but this won't be a full meal. Friday night Roxanne &amp; Charley are going to bop around the bars in Sintra. You are invited to also bop too but on your own tab :) Saturday the wedding is at 5pm! Explore durning the day then head to the Palacio for the ceremony which starts at 5pm. The wedding is black tie. Colors are encourage. It's ok if you're dress is low cut or sexy! The reception will go until approximately 2am. We're paying out the ass for this shit (all you can drink drinks) so come ready to eat, drink, and dance your booties off! Sunday morning breakfast will be served back at the venue starting at 10:30am. Breakfast is casual. You might be hungover. Let us feed you and tell you thank you for coming. What do we do after the wedding?After breakfast Sunday the wedding events will be over. That's it. Rox &amp; Charley will just be an old married couple. Nothing special there. However, they will be heading to Porto, Portugal (a few hours north). If you want to hang out longer they'd love for you to join.
